There are moments that occur, often going unnoticed, that reality blurs. These moments are contained within memories and split-seconds where one is fluid within the environment, so the self does not end where the body does. These moments can be traumatic, intimate, and otherworldly. We layer memories on top of one another, blurring some details while pulling others into focus, constructing and reconstructing, never quite reaching lucidity. My work aims to translate these physical experiences into visual ones; to express these invisible moments into ones that can be seen and documented, and to create a sort of tension between not only the figures within the piece, but the viewer as well, creating imagery that is both reminiscent of the actual event, as well as the memories that follow.
I wish to engage the audience in a very intimate way, drawing them in with images that can be both enticing and unnerving. Through the use of mixed media, I aim to give the impression of the figure being entangled in its surroundings, speaking to the connection between one’s body and one's psychological state of mind. By using a variety of opaque and translucent materials, I am able to layer materials in a way that pushes and pulls the figure in and out of focus, allowing the eye to wander, finding areas of brief focus, before pulled back into the fog.
